Proshop Shift
During my visit to Japan in January, I had the chance to check out Shift and drift with some of the guys there. I knew this would be the case, but it still surprised me how different their driving style and setups were compared to what I’ve been doing and reading about online. I spent maybe only a half day at Shift, but it made me question everything I was doing the past year.
Now I’m not going to comment on style, since that’s up to the driver and I don’t like forcing a certain driving style onto people. And I won’t go into detail on how they set their chassis up since that depends on your driving style as well, and is always evolving.
Yokomo YD-2
So I’ve been a bit busy with non RC related stuff recently but I recently got a chance to check out Yokomo’s new YD-2. There are images of Hayato’s prototype floating around online, but getting a chance to talk to him and drive the chassis in person answered some of the questions I had. So for those of you that didn’t get a chance to come out to the event at GGT here’s a few highlights.
Hisashiburi
So, my domain got blocked at work so I haven’t been updating my blog lately…Your best bet is to find me on Facebook, but I do plan to update this site every so often.
Also, I’m completely out of the decals I was planning to sell on this site. I wanted to make sure locals got a chance to get theirs first, and I ran out cause I handed them out like candy. I may have Austen do another small batch, possibly produce a volume 2, but for now grab some full size decals instead: http://nevercontent.jp/
GRK RWD Setting Memo
Finally got around to installing a multi link rear suspension using left over WUN parts I used to run in the front. I liked both bump in and out so I’ll have to do further testing. I’m also liking the high lever ratio in the rear, but also tried mounting the shocks to the knuckles but that didn’t feel good. Small modification to the front Ackermann made the biggest change though. Car now picks up speed pretty quick so I can keep up with CS running the same tires.
Facebook!
I decided to finally make a Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/flickyrc/
I’ll be posting random stuff throughout the week, and will be the best way to reach me as well.
大気開放 Damper
So I’m not a huge fan of damper maintenance, and the way I currently build my dampers shortens the maintenance cycle a little. I wanted to keep a similar damper feel to what I have now, where there’s minimal pressure build up on the top of the diaphragm. This way the dampers are linear and won’t rebound due to diaphragm pressure.
I’m not sure what the english term would be but drilling a hole on the shock cap is fairly common shock build method in Japan. The new GRK Globals come stock with the hole drilled out as well. Depending on the hole’s diameter you can change the feel as well but I went ahead and started off with a 2mm drill bit.
GGT Straight Away
Guild n One Yuuki had an interesting post today about what he was looking for while judging a PRO RC exhibition match at Tail-Slider’s track. Their track has a similar straight away to GGT, and the post nails the image in my head when I drive down that straight so here’s quick translation of a section from his post. Keep in mind this is just what I think would look the most realistic and cool, so if it doesn’t fit the driving style you prefer disregard it.

Keep in mind you enter the straight at GGT coming from the other direction.
